What is color drenching? The trend you’ll love
A use of color that leads to, we dare say, dramatic results: here’s how to use it even in a small space.
Color drenching (which is nothing more than using a color on both the walls and ceiling of a room), to be included in our top 5 interior design trends for 2024, has the ability to visually unify things: so if you don’t intend to update the whole house right now, you can use this trend to create a uniform and very elegant look.
Where does color drenching originate?
It is not entirely certain where color drenching comes from, although the Victorians loved to paint, so it might have originated here as an ally to the maximalist look of the era. We believe its recent popularity is one of the reactions to the minimalist trend that has been so popular in recent years.

We like color drenching because we love to play and those who know how to play with colors without fear; it’s also a great way to minimize the “static electricity” that sometimes comes from the contrast of finishes and ceilings…Drenching a room with a color or range of colors creates impact but also a calm uniformity that can make the room seem larger and, in a sense, more important. A trick that never goes out of style, we dare say.
How to use color drenching?
The first step is to choose the color. Although most color-filled rooms you might see may have dark shades, that doesn’t mean they have to be. A nice light color, like gray or light green, works perfectly.
Then we admit we also love pastel tones, and therefore suggest colors like a blush pink or other shades of Tiffany blue that we find perhaps kinder and more forgiving than white, more fun than beige, and warmer than the aforementioned gray; so there are various possibilities in choosing: make yours for a complete color drenching.

From walls to ceiling to wooden elements, frames, and even furniture and radiators, every surface becomes an expressive canvas. This approach creates a continuous look, a seamless solution, which in turn can help create the illusion of a larger space, don’t you think?
If you love color, this fabulous trend is definitely worth trying. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to choose a color that makes you feel safe: try choosing the shade you love most throughout the room. Furnishings, fabrics, and decorative objects can amplify the choice and help create a cohesive atmosphere in the room: making this kind of choice is extremely fun… You just need to get past the initial fear and dive into color drenching with both feet! Select a room, choose a color that resonates with you and that you find appropriate for your home.
And you’re done.
