Types of marble: which are the best and which to choose
Marble is synonymous with luxury and versatility and, as we know, it is available in a variety of colors and veins that make it unique.
Here is a guide to the main types of marble, highlighting their differences to help you choose the one most suitable for your project.
Carrara Marble

Carrara marble, the most common, is famous for its light gray or bluish background color with thin and uniform gray veins. It is very versatile and can be used in both classic and modern projects; being the most available thanks to Mother Nature, it is generally more economical compared to other types of marble, with a variable price. It is well-suited for flooring, kitchen countertops, and wall decorations, offering an elegant look without dominating the environment.
Calacatta Marble

Calacatta marble is rarer, with a bright white background and bold veins in golden, beige, or gray tones. This combination makes it ideal for applications requiring a strong visual impact, such as “important” walls, fireplaces, or custom furniture. Its common uses include kitchen countertops and bathrooms, where it imparts a sense of spaciousness and sophistication: the cost can be higher than Carrara.
Statuario Marble
Statuario marble, traditionally used in sculpture, is a type of marble appreciated for its pure white background and intense gray veins. It offers a strong contrast that makes it ideal for large surfaces, such as floors, claddings, or bathroom countertops. It shares many characteristics with Calacatta but with less color variation: it is widely used in high-design projects, where the contrast between white and gray becomes the focal point.
Lilac Marble

Lilac marble, perhaps less known but highly appreciated, stands out for its dark purple or black veins on a white background: this stone creates a sophisticated and contemporary aesthetic, ideal for modern spaces and is often chosen for walls, countertops, or custom furnishings.
N.B.: it requires careful maintenance to preserve its beauty.
Emperador Marble

Originating from Spain, Emperador marble is available in brown tones with warm veins: it is robust and versatile, perfect for floors and claddings in traditional or rustic settings. Its rich brown tone creates a welcoming atmosphere, adapting to both residential and commercial spaces and can also be used for fixtures like beautiful sinks.
Nero Marquina Marble

This Spanish stone is a striking option due to its deep black color with dramatic white veins; this type of marble is often used for decorative elements, fixtures, floors, or luxury details, adding a sophisticated touch to any space: it is a popular choice for those seeking a bold and contemporary look.
The choice of marble therefore depends on the budget, the desired aesthetics, and the intended use. For example, Carrara is a practical choice for large projects due to its availability, while Calacatta or Statuario are favored for creating an exclusive atmosphere. Finally, for a contemporary look, Lilac or Nero Marquina can become the focal points of the space. Each marble requires regular maintenance, including sealing to protect it from stains and wear; care varies slightly between types, but all require immediate cleaning in case of contact with acidic substances.
