The Courtyard House by FIGR Architecture
The Courtyard House is the 2015 project by FIGR studio in the state of Victoria, Australia, which references the traditional layout of Italian palaces, creating a connection between outdoor and indoor spaces. The house features three green areas with views: the front courtyard, the central courtyard, and the rear courtyard.

The central green courtyard is the heart of the house, masking the neighboring residences while allowing an unobstructed view of the trees surrounding the home.
The tranquil and calm space is intimately connected with the interior spaces of the house, which reveal themselves from various angles and through large windows. The dialogue with the landscape and nature is also achieved through the material palette.

Outside, brown bricks and wood integrate the construction into the urban fabric of the Templestowe area, while inside, a wooden slatted ceiling guides and directs through the spaces, juxtaposed with white concrete flooring.
A refined palette of materials such as light wood, terrazzo, and marble, paired with white and light walls for additional lightness.

The horizontally textured bricks of the exteriors are also used in a series of colonnades adjacent to the large windows through which courtyard light floods the corridors.
The courtyard, enveloped by the building, offers an invaluable intimate relaxation area, sheltered from the prying eyes of neighbors and structurally functional to provide light and spaciousness to the environments. The furnishings are simple yet elegant, favoring natural materials, a typical aesthetic choice of the designers, focusing on a linear and welcoming design.
In the large living area, the terrazzo flooring is paired with a wall-mounted kitchen with marble cladding and a light wood island with a marble top.

The style of the house is sophisticated yet effortless, with natural colors that charmingly highlight the external greenery and play of light. The style is modern, with a calm and intimate atmosphere that recreates the soul of Italian palaces, graceful and timeless.
