Summer 2024 Interior Design According to TikTok – Colors, Ideas, Spaces

Looking for trends and styles? TikTok understood it.

It’s no surprise that social media has a huge influence on interior design, but what sets TikTok’s content apart from Instagram’s is that the former has a stronger focus on teaching and suggesting how to replicate what they showcase.

#DesignTok is based on sharing tips, tricks, and intriguing interior discoveries: creators focus on the beauty of space, from studios to larger areas, and suggest design “pieces” and various moodboards. Here are five summer design trends that we’ve seen take TikTok by storm this past month.

Colorful, cluttered, maximalist

Building on the post-minimalist movement of recent years, we are witnessing a rise in the popularity of maximalist spaces featuring prominent colors, diverse textures, and showcasing the unique taste of their owner. On TikTok, we’ve seen creators share their spaces, and these videos are full of bright colors, vintage finds of various kinds, and plenty of plants. The maximalism trend is here to stay!

“My ______ if they were a ____”

If there’s a lasting effect that Tumblr has had on Millennial and Gen Z populations, it’s the popularity of moodboards, whether they’re carefully curated Instagram accounts or, in this case, TikTok. It’s no coincidence to find the trend “My _____ if it were a _____,” where creators align a series of images that interpret a loved one as a bedroom, a living room, a color, or even a scent. This trend emphasizes how places and physical objects embody a person’s character, and the videos are sweet tributes to the love for their loved ones.

Let’s give importance back to floors

Say goodbye to plain floors and opt for marble or travertine flooring instead. This is a splendid addition to any home, especially in more contemporary spaces, and it’s also a fantastic way to showcase the natural beauty and variations of stone. Keep in mind that while this look is popular on TikTok, it’s certainly not a passing fad. So, if you’re looking to invest in new flooring for the long term, you really can’t go wrong with the timeless look of travertine or marble flooring.

Color drenching

We talked a lot about it last month, and this trend is set to become even more popular in 2025. It’s a very easy trend to incorporate into a living room or bedroom; you just need to choose a color you love (because you’ll be using a lot of it) and use it in almost every element of the room, including furnishings, furniture, decorations, and accessories. We’ll see this trend come to life with dark and almost moody tones in the coming year.

Even larger kitchen islands

Thinking of renovating your kitchen this year? Why not take it to the next level? One of the most exciting trends being talked about on TikTok is a larger island that serves not only for cooking but also for hosting seating. So, don’t be afraid to expand the island by a few more feet.
