A small mountain chalet was renovated by architect Sabrina Cherubin with a modern and distinctive design that maximizes natural light and emphasizes the rustic character where the warmth of wood and the texture of stone dominate.

The project, given the limited space, creates new environments to ensure maximum functionality and usability.

The house is bathed in light thanks to the skylights that capture zenithal light to bring it into the living area. The environment is warm, and the pellet stove recreates the idea of a domestic hearth in a modern way.

In the center of the living area, the stone wall breaks the uniformity of the wood cladding, a theme that dominates the entire project. The travertine mosaic cladding with a split finish, rustic and material, enhances the wall both structurally and metaphorically.
The living area of this small mountain chalet with natural stone cladding hosts the living room, kitchen, and dining area, creating defined “islands” without sacrificing the open space layout.

In the kitchen, wood is also the protagonist with exposed beams, custom-made furniture, and brushed oak floors. The project focuses not only on optimizing space usage but also on improving energy performance achieved with a special insulation in rock wool to improve the thermal insulation coefficient.

From the entrance, you access the living area through a small hallway that receives light from the living room skylights. The sleeping area is located on the opposite side and includes two small bedrooms and a bathroom.

In these environments, wood is the predominant element with custom-made paneling that, in addition to the pleasant aesthetic effect, has a functional value by hiding wardrobes and storage spaces, utilizing all available space, even under the roof.
The result is a chalet with a typically “Alpine” character with cozy, warm furnishings and decorative details in natural tones, for modern environments with a material and natural character.
