Site visits and inspections at the quarry: a day in Carrara

Part of our work involves the careful selection of materials for our clients’ projects.

As you know if you follow us, natural stone is inherently variable and changeable, and each piece is different from another.
For this reason, despite our color selections (click here to see them all), an accurate site visit is often required during the selection of pieces for special projects of particular importance.

If a large quantity of material is needed and color uniformity is sought, it is indeed essential to consider a certain percentage of material waste due to particularly stained or veined pieces.

This is why the work of selecting the blocks is important.

Before becoming tiles or slabs or bathtubs or bathroom sinks, stones – travertine and marble – are large format slabs and even before that, blocks of considerable size. We recently conducted a site visit for the selection of Carrara marble; below you can see photos of blocks and slabs.

Some are more veined, others have a uniform background with light veining.
