Sign: tracing the stone. Sculpture workshop with the Academy of Fine Arts October 4-6, 2018
Pietre di Rapolano in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence organize the III edition of: Sculpture Workshop in the City titled: SIGN, TRACING THE STONE, intended for young students attending the Florentine Academy.

The event will take place at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, specifically in the garden where all the main sculpture schools of the institution are located, a garden that recalls, among its visitors as teachers, illustrious artists such as Lorenzo Bartolini, Giovanni Duprè, Augusto Rivalta, Giovanni Fattori and more recently: Oscar Gallo, Antonio Berti, just to name a few, and of course many young students of the past and present.
SIGN: tracing the stone is the main theme of the event, aiming to refocus attention on the specificity of stone sculpture in an era where art escapes contemplation, hiding its body among ephemeral images and elusive truths. The stone sculpture with its noble material, laden with ancestral memories, reintroduces a necessary sign for our time, reestablishing a balance between virtual images and the physicality of the work, reaffirming its primacy in the enduring sign, destined for contemplation and reflection.

The young students, coordinated by the professor of Technology and use of marble, stones, and hard stones, Prof. Francesco Roviello, will work on some blocks of sandstone and travertine, based on their projects inspired by the theme SIGN. The workshop will be open and visitable on October 4, 5, and 6 from 10 AM to 6 PM, where it will be possible to see the sculpture students at work.
Award Ceremony and Closing Evening: On Saturday 6 at 5:00 PM, the award ceremony will be held in the presence of the Director of the Academy, Prof. Claudio Rocca, the Deputy Director, Prof. Giandomenico Semeraro, and the promoter of the event, Arch. Lorenzo Polvani of Pietre di Rapolano srl.
At the end of the award ceremony, there will be a reception and a jazz concert with the Lumumba Said Quartet.
