Endless wonder
A splendid pool, nestled in the greenery of the hills around Florence, has been created to serve a farmhouse. Pietre di Rapolano collaborated on the project, curated by engineers Tonino and Riccardo Turchetti, from the design phase.
Pool flooring and cladding
Initially, the work plan included the creation in travertine of only the edges and surrounding areas, while the interior was planned in PVC: this was decided due to concerns about using stone in contact with water treatment products.
Calcium carbonate, which makes up travertine, suffers in acidic environments (in highly acidic environments, of course): the solution was to treat the water with special salt systems.
The introduction of simple salt into the pool and the insertion of titanium plates under tension produce disinfectant chlorine. This system also acts as a controller of the pH values, which stabilize on their own between 7.4 and 7.6, keeping the water neutral or slightly basic. Such a disinfection system does not create any problems for the stone, which will remain unchanged forever.
The choice of Travertine
For the choice, a mosaic in a mix of colors was opted for, from light to dark, to achieve very natural water colorations for the pool interior, and the Avana Mix (code PDR068) for the exteriors.
The tiles of various formats were chosen with a tumbled finish to ensure non-slip properties in the presence of wet material, even though travertine already has excellent anti-slip performance.
The final color effect reflected the desires of the designers and clients, a natural and sophisticated environment that harmonizes with the stone cladding the farmhouse facade and fits perfectly into the Tuscan hills.
