Travertine that warms the heart
Private residence located on the hills of Fiesole at the gates of Florence, where the protagonist is the hand-carved light travertine fireplace with classic lines.
The project is by Arcabi studio, which oversaw the entire restoration and furnishing project; the fireplace was sculpted by the artist Simone Bonciani.
From aesthetic stimuli, to design, to execution, all phases were managed in collaboration between the architects, Pietre di Rapolano, and the client.
The manual work meticulously followed the our executive drawing created based on the formal suggestions of the designers: step by step, the stone took shape with grooves and decorative motifs.
The choice of travertine
The designers’ idea was to create a classic fireplace in carved stone, but at the same time sleek, not heavy, with slightly more contemporary lines.
The travertine, used in many other areas of the house, seemed the most suitable material combined with a skillful manual art, the “know-how”: that of the artisans.
In this production, as in many others, we have embraced the words of Richard Sennett, a way of producing that is inspired by the “qualities of ancient artisans: knowledge of tools, perfectionism, ability to foresee the consequences of one’s work, thinking not only of profit”.
And this is what happened in the creation of this artifact: the creation took place directly at our headquarters where our technicians guided the hand of Simone Bonciani who began by roughing out the stone blocks, sawing the decorations that would take shape, and finishing the moldings and decorations with various chisels.
Once all the components of the fireplace were completed – the two side jambs and the front – the pieces were installed at our workshops.
The work, made of solid travertine, is a unique piece capable of transforming the entire environment: the light of the fire from this fireplace gives characteristic light effects to the carved stone for a truly scenic final effect, which also warms the heart.
