The House on the Hill
A short distance from Montepulciano, there is a majestic 18th-century villa that enjoys a picturesque view of the Sienese hills. The villa is an ancient manor house that is part of the Fattoria del Cerro, owned by Saiagricola. It is accessed via a cypress-lined avenue, surrounded by vineyards covering approximately 600 hectares, and stands atop the hill.
The Villa has undergone a renovation that included the refurbishment of the 11 existing rooms and their respective bathrooms. The project was overseen by the B-sign studio in Florence, while the company that carried out the work is Mipe.
Rapolano travertine and its peculiarities
The floors and wall coverings of the bathrooms were made with PDR013 light earth travertine in the Rural finish (unstuccoed polished), a choice made in harmony with local traditions and the surrounding landscape.
This material, characterized by its beige background and color spots ranging from brown to dark gray, represents a strong stylistic choice that aligns with the architects’ design intentions.
The custom project
A total of 11 shower trays, of various sizes, were custom cut and installed according to a pavilion layout, completed by the presence of a step.
The wall coverings chosen in the standard size of 45.7×91.4 cm were cut in the central band according to a module of 1/3 and 2/3 so that the lower coverings of the sanitary ware have a height of 121.5 cm. In the upper part, the tiles were mounted up to the ceilings.
The supply also included bathroom furniture: boxwood tops mounted on a stainless steel structure with an integrated towel rack. For all the furniture, solid travertine bowl sinks (models Tonda, Tonda slim, Fiano) were used, and in one of the rooms, the freestanding sink Cono.
