Born in water
We worked on a luxury complex in Lombardy, consisting of three villas with a large common outdoor area. The exteriors include a swimming pool, several loggias, a shower and relaxation area, and a wellness area.
Pietre di Rapolano supplied the travertine used for the paving adjacent to the pool and for the creation of the pool edges.
Specifically, a Becagli Light travertine (code PDR006) was used, alternating with bands of Becagli Dark travertine (code PDR011): the finish of the material is brushed, not stripped (Duomo). The flooring was made in bands of 30 cm with variable piece lengths (running).
The choice of travertine
The choice of travertine for defining pools is particularly suitable. This material indeed is born in water, withstands outdoor use very well (even in cold contexts, where temperatures can drop below zero) thanks to the non-frost susceptibility of travertine and ensures adequate non-slip properties due to the intrinsic characteristics of the material.
The project also included the supply of all the cladding for the boundary walls of the spaces with quarry-split travertine.
The outdoor shower area, seating, and connecting stairs for the various levels were also made in Becagli Light travertine (code PDR006).
The various curved pieces, stairs, walls, and pool edges were custom-made to measure, after a careful survey conducted on site, to provide a perfect match between these and the actual site conditions.
The executive drawings and surveys were carried out by our technicians.
The detailing of the pool edge also resulted from a careful study between the property and the specialists of Pietre di Rapolano: a water circulation under the edge was required for pool purification: to achieve this space, plastic (teflon) spacers were fixed to ensure the required specifications.
A water collection channel accessible through a gap between the floor and the edge prevented rainwater from flowing into the pool, contaminating it with dust present on the pavements.
