Farmhouse in the Florentine countryside

In the heart of the Tuscan countryside, a French family purchased a farmhouse to transform it into a peaceful oasis. The renovation of this house was undertaken by the studio Pierattelli Architetture, led by architect Massimo Pierattelli. With the aim of preserving the rural characteristics of the area, the Florentine studio chose to retain terracotta floors and decorative elements, wooden ceilings, and sandstone walls in opus incertum. Inside the home, elements of traditional Tuscan construction were deliberately paired with ethnic elements from distant countries, mixed with custom furniture and design and lighting icons.

The vanilla tones of Travertine PDR036 Nebbia

The PDR036 Nebbia, our selection with a vanilla background and slightly darker clouding, was used for the floors and wall coverings in the bathrooms, in the standard format 40.6x61x1.2 cm and in the stuccoed/polished finish.

The three bathrooms in the house were designed with custom travertine tops 15 cm high with integrated sinks, using the same type of material as the coverings (PDR036 Nebbia). The tops were conceived as box elements (obtained from 2 cm thick slabs cut to size and assembled) and were installed on wooden and metal furniture.

The light tones of travertine permeate the service areas, adding brightness and composure.

The spiral staircase in pietra serena

Travertine is not the only stone material present in the home. The flooring in some passage areas is made with regular slabs of polished pietra serena. A massive pre-existing spiral staircase in pietra serena dominates the living area with its characteristic shape and the skilled craftsmanship with which the surface workings of the stone were carried out. The central pillar, into which the cantilevered steps are embedded, features a regular and deep grooving obtained with a chisel alternated with a ribbon of a few centimeters, giving it a unique material quality.
