The traditional meets the modern

The Central Market in Florence has created a new space within the I Gigli Shopping Center in Campi Bisenzio: “At the Stalls of the Central Market“.

Located on the first floor of the center, it hosts 17 shops offering typical and artisanal products both from Tuscany and Italy over an area of 2,000 square meters.

The choice of travertine

Various food offerings range from truffles to Sicilian specialties, from Chianina burgers to Chinese dumplings. The pizza stall, fresh pasta, ice cream parlor, and many other stalls selling specialties complete the offering.

The architectural project is signed by the Florentine studio Q-bic by brothers Luca and Marco Baldini, while all the marble counters of the various shops were made by Pietre di Rapolano.

Some were made in Bardiglio, a gray Apuan marble, while others in Bianco Carrara. The two marbles, requested by the designers, are the most suitable choice for the type of work that needed to be done: indeed, white and gray marble are the elements used in the countertops and tables of the historic shops.

Once these materials were agreed upon with the designers, starting from the blocks and slabs obtained from them, we conducted on-site surveys and began cutting the various counters.

The non-negotiable deadlines for delivering the finished work imposed a tight and rigorous work schedule: hundreds of people, coordinated by the architects, overlapped in a frenetic activity, often even at night.

As the counter spaces were completed, our technicians conducted surveys that were passed on to production, to then be assembled a few hours later.
