Natural stone mosaics for bathroom cladding
Cladding the bathroom with mosaic of travertine, marble mosaic, or colored stone mosaic is one of the oldest and most fascinating ways to cover entirely, or just part of, the new bathroom.
The need to finish walls and floors with some material that could make them easier to clean on one hand, and an artistic and decorative expression on the other, found in mosaic art, from the beginning of the history of architecture, several splendid ways to meet this need.

Marbles and stones are naturally available in many colors and tone variations, and in the past, it was easier to obtain small pieces rather than large marble slabs for surface cladding: certainly, more economical formats to produce, but more expensive to install. However, the greater installation difficulty was offset by the low labor cost of the time.
Thus, cladding a floor or decorating part of a space by laying these small colored tiles was the most appropriate, flexible, and ultimately economical solution.
In this way, magnificent examples of mosaic art have taken shape in the History of Art: simple decorations, Greek borders, or bands still adorn the monochromatic flooring of the villas of Pompeii.
However, the small colored tiles also allowed for the creation of true decorative and figurative works of art, as in the mosaics of Piazza Armerina or the Cathedral of Aquileia.

In any case, this way of decorating and cladding a space with mosaic tiles required long installation times and highly skilled craftsmen.
Contemporary production costs, and the difficulty of finding skilled labor to work with small tiles, had led to the ancient technique of mosaic for cladding spaces being somewhat abandoned in contemporary architecture.
As often happens, ingenious yet simple ideas allow for a reinterpretation of ancient technologies in a modern key. In the case of marble mosaics, the tiles that make up the finished work are pre-assembled by inserting them onto pre-spaced base templates.

The finished product is shown below.

The sheets of about 30×30 cm obtained will allow for easy and quick installation, enabling very particular effects in multiple shapes and sizes.
The mosaics obtained, in many sizes and colors, composed of square, rhomboid, strip tiles of various lengths, or rectangular, are excellently suited for cladding bathrooms in classic or modern style, on entire surfaces, such as the inside of a shower, but not only… the mosaic technique is usable in various ways.
Marble mosaics mounted on mesh can be easily used to create shower trays with the nuances that each small piece of stone carries within itself, creating warm, welcoming environments capable of evoking the highest historical and artistic tradition of stone use in architecture.
