What Material to Use?

NATURAL STONE
Among all natural stones, travertine and marble are the most sought after. Both are available in a largely neutral range of shades from light to dark, with beautiful textures that make them unique.

For the wow factor, marble is hard to beat, but its natural porosity requires careful maintenance: have you read this post of ours on its cleaning? Give it a read, because if you know what to do, it’s not that difficult.

QUARTZ SURFACES
Quartz is the most economical natural stone; for kitchen countertops, quartz agglomerate is also used: it is durable and requires relatively low maintenance, but cannot withstand any impact. If you choose it, you will need to avoid harsh cleaners, not cut directly on the surface, and use many, many trivets for pots.

LAMINATE
Laminate kitchen countertops are among the most affordable: they are generally resistant to stains, impacts, heat, and water-repellent and are available in a myriad of colors, patterns, and finishes, like higher quality products that have a more “authentic” feel.
That said, as resistant as they are, always use a cutting board, avoid placing hot objects on them, and keep in mind that if moisture gets into the underlayer, it can cause the material to swell.

WOOD

Beautiful, even to the touch, a renewable resource and relatively easy to work with, wood can have a wonderful visual impact in a kitchen. As a worktop, it will need to be regularly oiled or finished and won’t appreciate knives or too much moisture: in no time, its beautiful appearance can become shabby.

STAINLESS STEEL

Steel is durable, hygienic, easy to clean and resistant to practically anything. Although it won’t maintain its spotless beauty for long, the inevitable scratches that will eventually appear will give it its characteristic look: are you aware of this?

While functionality has its major role to play, we therefore advise you to consider your kitchen countertop as a blank canvas where you can unleash your originality and make a statement.
So, among these different possibilities, which one suits you, respecting your idea of a kitchen?
