Travertine: the perfect material for outdoor flooring
When using any type of stone for outdoor paving, the thickness issue is always a major concern. In reality, a high thickness is never necessary, although many fear that a thin layer could withstand the heavy weight of vehicular traffic.
This, however, is a false problem: stone resists compression very well, and it’s clear that if the substrate on which the stone slab rests is stable and doesn’t move, high thicknesses won’t be necessary even under vehicular traffic. Otherwise, for example, when installing on sand, the thickness will be calculated based on the weight: our technicians will help you with all the necessary decisions.
When using travertine outdoors, which by its very nature has holes, we usually recommend finishes that leave it as natural as possible: saw-finished, honed, or brushed. The grouting often used for interior travertine floors is not suitable for exteriors: the material would tend to be more slippery, and the closed holes would tend to open up with the elements.
