Edgecliff Road Residence. The contemporary charm of natural materials
Edgecliff Road Residence is a property in Woollahra near Sydney undergoing renovation by owner and architect Addy Hooper. The home, intended to host a family living around the world throughout the year, was reimagined by architect and designer Julia English.

The renovation is the result of the creative collaboration of Addy Hopper with Julia English and interior architect Chantelle Kramer, offering a new interpretation of the Victorian charm of the original structure with an elegant and sophisticated style.
The spaces are reinterpreted in a contemporary way while retaining some Victorian style elements in the bedrooms. The result is spacious and bright environments designed to accommodate the whole family, with an open kitchen and dining room that seamlessly blend with the outdoor courtyard space.

The residence is part of a row of five townhouses in a heritage conservation area, thus maintaining its original heritage fabric within the new design, featuring dark metal cladding.
Hooper’s passion for sophisticated materials influenced the color palette with deep tones of intense and classic warmth, while the range of materials includes stone, wood, brass, and steel to recreate timeless luxury.

In particular, the dining room features travertine floors also used for the outdoor living area, with a stone barbecue unit and stairs. The travertine slabs are used continuously in the interior spaces as well, such as in the hallways and bathroom.
In other areas of the house, the flooring is solid oak, as in the bedrooms and living room. The room is completed with a blackened oak shelf, with custom-made brass handles. These are the refined details that complete the furnishings.

The renovation indeed focuses on the quality of materials, essential forms, and modern touches.
