Dedalo in Bloom: the winner and photos of the event

Last Saturday, May 27, the event Dedalo in Bloom, the sculpture competition organized by Pietre di Rapolano with the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, took place. A competition open to ten young students from the Florentine Academy who worked for three days on original artworks in a green setting, the community garden of Florence Orti Dipinti.

Prof. Francesco Roviello from the course “Techniques of Marble and Hard Stones” proposed to the young participants the theme of Daedalus, the mythical figure known for having built the legendary labyrinth where the Minotaur was imprisoned.

The sculptors started with some travertine blocks of different colors for their works.

Victoire Desprez, Greta Fila, Maria Angelica Mazzulli, Uber Passatelli, Shasha Ricci, Filippo Silvino, Ilaria Tamborini, Francesco Trabucchi, Giulia Vaccari, and Maria Zanon are the ten participants of the contest now in its second edition. All the students created splendid works still on display at Orti Dipinti.

The work awarded by the jury composed of Claudio Rocca, vice director of the Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Francesco Roviello, and architect Lorenzo Polvani of Pietre di Rapolano was that of Maria Zanon, who skillfully shaped a red travertine into a modern and original work representing her personal exploration of the labyrinth theme.

The event was also enlivened by a clay workshop for adults and children and the performance of the group Note Noire Quartet with a repertoire inspired by the sounds of Django Reinhardt and ranging from Hungarian and Romanian folk themes to modern and jazz styles.

Special thanks go to Giacomo Salizzoni of Orti Dipinti who hosted the event over these three days, to Prof. Roviello, to the vice director of the Academy of Fine Arts Claudio Rocca, and to all those who participated, making the event a true success.

For the photos, thanks to Riccardo Muci and Federica Narducci.
