Classic or modern fireplace? Choose from various styles and decorations
The fireplace is an element capable of warming any environment in which it is placed. It warms “physically” thanks to the heat it emits, but also “emotionally,” for the emotional comfort it generates.
There are various types of fireplaces, some very technological, others more traditional, burning wood, but also bioethanol or other flammable elements.
In any case, a fireplace evokes emotion and generates well-being.
From a purely technical point of view, wood-burning fireplaces can have a very technological firebox, contained in a prefabricated casing or alternatively simply built in masonry.
In either case, the use of stone, marble, travertine, or other stone materials has always been used for the construction of fireplaces, adapting the decoration according to the historical and stylistic periods in which it was made.
Classic style fireplace
The elements that define it are generally richly decorated and are made with prestigious marbles and stones. The style refers to the historical and cultural context it relates to and is often inspired by models made in important historic residences.
The firebox is open and the flame is free.
The richness of the fireplace decoration can be in harmony with the room’s furnishings.

Other stylistic reference periods feature fireplaces that display family crests or simply decorative elements at the center of the fireplace’s architrave.
Garland motifs often decorate classic style fireplaces: the pietra serena is very well suited to this type of fireplace.

Modern style fireplaces
The evolution of aesthetic taste leads to a general simplification of decorative motifs and the pursuit of cleanliness and simplicity.
The use of stone and marble in fireplace decoration is very well suited to defining modern style fireplaces.
The lines become sharper, the decorations are reduced or tend to disappear.
The use of technological closed-fire fireplaces tends to improve the thermal efficiency of combustion. But even in this case, the external and aesthetic definition of the fireplace can be made in stone or marble.
Sometimes entire walls are covered in marble, leaving a simple cut within which the fire chamber is created.
Only the client’s imagination will define the creative possibilities of a furnishing element, essential for having a beautiful and comfortable living space!
The design collaboration between the client, the architect, and Pietre di Rapolano leads to the definition of all the necessary pieces of the fireplace and their subsequent creation.
Our ability to work with marble and stone allows us to create both Classic and Modern style fireplaces.
