Choose travertine to furnish with a rustic and modern style
The young interior designer Caroline Brodard from Geneva has renovated a house in Switzerland, near Lausanne, intended to host a family with four children.
Her work is always the result of a meeting between the characteristics of the place and the people it will host, a kind of connection respecting the distinctive elements and character of both.

For this house in Le Mont-sur-Lausanne in the Lausanne district, Switzerland, the designer particularly started from the dark and cold structure, trying to illuminate it and creating new and larger windows.
Another intervention involved expanding the parking area to make it more functional.
The creative and design process also involved the intimate and personal sphere of the designer: the size of the house and the environment were indeed very similar to those of the designer’s family home, thus evoking old childhood memories.

Inside, the project aimed to streamline the spatial balance while maintaining a division between the various areas necessary for family life. For this reason, large areas were created, perfect for hosting the entire family during free moments, and at the same time, more intimate spaces, ideal for finding a bit of privacy.

To achieve warm and welcoming environments and furnish in a rustic style, the designer opted for materials like travertine for the floors, black granite for the countertops, brushed solid oak wood, and raw fabrics like linen.
Rich and natural textures like the intense beige travertine of the master bathroom, which is modern, bright, and functional.
They are natural materials with their imperfections that already tell a story on their own and contribute to creating an ideal setting to host the family’s artworks, a collection with multicultural influences resulting from travels around the world.

On the upper floor, to furnish in a modern style the children’s rooms, more contemporary and delicate materials like stoneware, carpet, and light wood were used. Connecting the two floors, different in appearance but not in attitude, is a staircase full of light and decorated with cardboard lamps that establish a connection between the two souls, one rustic, the other modern.

It is truly an interesting project that provides many ideas for furnishing a house in a rustic and modern style: what do you think?
