Bord för En: the Swedish restaurant offering a table for one
“The only safe restaurant during the coronavirus,” this is the slogan associated with Bord för En, a restaurant in Sweden that opened on May 10.
Many restaurants have been forced to rethink how they do business in the era of COVID-19, but a new culinary proposal from a couple in Sweden removes the physical part from the equation entirely. Rasmus Persson and Linda Karlsson are the creators of this restaurant (which is precisely a single table and chair) located in a meadow.

The cost of a three-course meal at Bord For En (Table for One), the pop-up restaurant in Sweden, is at the discretion of the diner.
The promise is not interaction with others: this is an individual experience meant to be enjoyed alone.
There are no waiters and no other guests.
For its limited duration (it will be open until August 1), the restaurant will serve only one person per day so that Persson and Karlsson can focus entirely on them.

Eat now and pay what you can
The two conceived this concept one evening several weeks ago, when Karlsson’s parents showed up at the couple’s home while Covid-19 was spreading worldwide (in Sweden, the state never imposed definitive restrictions regarding social distancing practices).
Despite this, Persson and Karlsson decided it would be more prudent to set up a table for them outside in the garden, at a safe distance.
“We welcome everyone, no matter what your financial situation is. The menu price depends on the guest.”
The food and drinks are brought in a picnic basket tied to a rope that leads from the kitchen window to the restaurant. When asked if exceptions will be made for more than one guest, such as a couple who have self-isolated together, Karlsson says “unfortunately not.”
“It’s sad to say no, but if we think about it, how much time do we spend with ourselves? This is an opportunity to do so.”
