5 ideas for Nordic decor that will transform your living room
Scandinavian interior design is recognized for its minimalism, neutral colors, natural materials, and simple lines that provide a clean and modern look; don’t worry though: there is still room to make choices that reflect your style.

The minimalism of a Nordic-style living room is not sterile. It is tidy, inviting: it emphasizes the function of the furniture so that your living room meets all your family’s needs; the functionality of Nordic interior design does this and much more.
This type of decor uses a neutral palette of black, white, gray, and beige with the possible addition of soft blues and pastel pinks: it does not contrast colors against each other but makes mixed use of various shades; even though white is the dominant color, a color that gives the living room a bright and well-lit appearance.
The natural materials used include wood, rattan, cotton, wool, and fur: the countries of Northern Europe are known for their cold winters, so having wool or fur blankets as part of the home decor is another functional feature in a Nordic-style living room; plants and flowers are used to add a touch of nature.
1. Brother of minimalism
There is no single rule for following Nordic interior design, but many homes with this inspiration focus on a neutral color palette: cleanliness and simplicity along with natural materials that do not make the space sterile.

2. Mix types of wood
Most Scandinavian homes use many natural wood materials, don’t be afraid to play with different shades of wood paired with painted surfaces in other colors.

3. Art without colors
You won’t find colorful artwork in Scandinavian homes, but that doesn’t mean Nordic design is devoid of art. Take for example the image below, where there are two simple pieces of wall art that beautifully match the simple color palette in the rest of the room.

4. Long live the light
Nordic decor needs a lot of white space to “breathe” and to reflect natural light: do you also get a feeling of lightness and purity?

5. The importance of vintage
Once again, the return to vintage takes center stage. In Nordic homes, you often find various pieces of furniture of certain value and often antique, if not “old”… reclaimed; the furniture seems to have been put together over the years. They add warmth and personality, and the same goes for small pieces of decor like vases, ceramics, and candle holders that seem handmade or found at a flea market.

As for design trends, the Nordic decor style is one of the easiest to understand; after all, how can you not love a trend that brings feelings of comfort and warmth and helps bring calm to any space? Nordic decor is certainly a great inspiration if you want to bring a bit of peace into your home.
